infuriating how white women approach feminism when it comes to woc..the way they act like all women are a homogenous group and they will all be liberated in the exact same way…like im begging to understand that so much of white feminism is influenced by a white worldview
like ok i wear a hijab and i understand that sometimes some muslim women are forced into it and sometimes it is used to oppress women but the act of wearing a hijab in and of itself is not inherently anti feminist like i can confidently say i personally don’t feel oppressed by wearing it and yet the amount of times i’ve seen white women act like i’ve been brainwashed into thinking that and i’m too dumb to realise this like i’ve actually thought a lot abt it u cunts! you are not smarter and more fucking ‘woke’ than me! and like in my anthro class we had to read an article by a white woman abt the japanese practise of mothers making elaborate bento boxes for their children every morning and she was arguing that it was a tool of patriarchy. even though a lot of the women she interviewed didn’t have a problem w it and actually enjoyed it cuz it was like an act of love. and if a japanese woman was to talk abt how she was in fact victimised by this then i would shut up and listen but what gives a white woman the right to go into a country that is not her own and a society that is not her own and point fingers and call their practises misogynistic. and i understand that theoretically the arguments white women make do make logical sense bc it’s so easy to look at smth n be like oh these women are ‘forced’ to wear modest clothing? these other women are ‘forced’ to cook for their kids? that’s plain misogyny. they rationalise things according to their own experiences and i think they should realise that their experiences and the experiences of woc are different! there’s no problem in feeling liberated by wearing less clothes just as there’s no problem w me feeling liberated cuz i wear more clothes. and the thing is i think white women DO understand this because they’ll write thinkpieces about how billie eilish is feminist for wearing baggy clothes and how we should support stay at home mums and even stuff that doesn’t even rly make sense like there’s power in submitting to the male gaze (i.e. reclaiming bimboism) and yet when it comes to woc they lose any sense of nuance. because ofc in their eyes woc are always the victims that need the great white women to come along and free them. and i’m rly getting sick of it..bottom line is if woc speak abt their experiences w the patriarchy then we should support and amplify their voices and white women should stfu and stop trying to impose their own understanding of feminism on everyone else
